MERELY PLAYERS
*Merely Players, a non-profit theatre company was founded in Durango, Colorado by Mona Wood-Patterson and Charles Ford in 1995. Best known for their work at Durango High School, where they built a program that has garnered local, statewide, and national recognition, Mona and Charles look forward to proceeding with their Merely Players vision:
*To consistently provide quality theatre in this region, while broadening the range of types of experiences available to local theatergoers through relevant, exciting productions in a variety of venues
* To offer dynamic educational programs to area youth and private acting lessons for all ages
* To nurture the community artist through individual productions and collaborations with other local artists and groups

As is true in theatres across the nation, ticket prices account for only about 50% of our production costs. The rest of our expenses must be met through private donations and grants. The money we raise directly affects the quality of our productions. Donations are used to rent spaces, pay royalties, hire actors and other personnel, pay for technical elements such as scenery, costumes, and lighting, and to publicize our shows.
Theatre is expensive. Even bare-bones productions cost thousands of dollars. But we believe that it is worth it, and we hope that you do too. The art that is created in theatre is unique and moving in a way that mass media cannot replicate. A major reason Durango is ranked as one of the top small towns to live in is because of the rich and varied culture within our beautiful surroundings. We believe that our theatre company contributes to that fertile environment. Art enriches the community’s soul.
We reaffirm our promise that every dime we receive will go toward making quality theatre in Durango in 2013. Even small amounts add up and ensure that we can continue creating theatre in Durango.
