THE HUMANS

“I wish I could’ve known that most of the stuff I did spend my life worrying about wasn’t so bad.”

What happens to a family when life unravels in unexpected ways? Merely Players is delighted to present the regional premiere of the play that won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Play. Stephen Karam’s brilliantly rich and tender drama explores the love and fear inherent in modern family life. Job loss, unfulfilled career dreams, financial calamity, and dementia present challenges and obstacles to the Blake family, who must find a way to navigate through life together. It’s funny; it’s heartbreaking; it’s real. It’s about being human.

Throughout your life, you add to the list. And you hope. Local favorite Sarah Syverson appears in this heartfelt one-woman show. Another Merely Players regional premiere, Duncan Macmillan’s play is the funniest play about depression you will ever see. Our found space production of the year will continue to move you and make you think long after it ends.

MACBETH

“Fair is foul, and foul is fair.”

Spurred by prophesy and consumed by ambition, Macbeth and his wife embark upon a murderous path to claim Scotland’s throne. Greed and lust for power become entwined with guilt and paranoia in one of the most powerful plays of all time. Told with the imagination and invention for which Merely Players has become known, Shakespeare’s famous tragedy bursts on to the local stage. Something wicked this way comes.
